TT SHORTBOARD

Best described as a step down to a standard shortboard, usually 2-3 inches. This board is ridden and best suited in waves up to four feet. It has a lower entry rocker and the similar tail rocker of 2”-2’1/2” as the BEAU shortboard, this is to give it lift in the small curves of waves. The bottom contour; entry V into a deep single concave flattening out the tail. The rails are chined in the nose and full through the middle, becoming boxy around the fins. It feeds into the wave smooth of take offs and is enjoyable in most surf.

I have ridden this board in good, average and below average surf, and have managed to gain lift and speed out of turns/airs.

Best suited as a thruster. tail adaptions can be applied.

BEAU THRUSTER

an original contemporary outline ranges in length from 5-7ft (Wide Point 18” - 19’ 3/4”), with a pulled in squash, swallow or round tail, to be versatile in most conditions.

The Deck; is a personal preference, a medium gradual roll in the deck is favourable in this board.

The bottom; roll, is introduced to offer a snowboard-ing feeling, surfing from heel to toe, it generates speed with less front foot pump work. The board is developed for the rider to do (less) and gain more speed. The board acts the opposite to a regular concave thruster, and doesn’t want to be overly fed aggressive pump work. Instead it prefers a subtle approach, as the centre channel reducues 5-7” of surface area in the water, and the straighter rail line is out of the water whilst planing,  the board relies on a combination of the roll panels and the rail to act, and lift, taking the surfer to unique positions on the wave.

The rocker; Nose; 4-5” Tail; 1’3/4”- 2’1/2”

Consisting areas; 12-13” nose, 18 3/4-20” Wide Point Centre and a 14-15” tail.

The rail; 40% down A cut, and continues another 20 % on the second to meet a 60/40 rail with a tuck to hard edge featured throughout the length of the board.

The Fins; best suited to this board are 96.7sqcm (113mm base) (115mm height) SOAR - DBM / DBL

This board is best suited for good down the line waves, and was developed for rail to rail surfing.

SEMI GUN

This board is altered to surf in waves above 4ft. The length of the board is increased and generally the width narrowed compared to a shortboard. The rocker is elongated with a flatter planing surface in the centre; and the apex is pushed forward slightly.

Surfing behind the apex of the rocker offers a lot of drive and stabitily. Coming off the bottom particularly, the board sits in the water firmly on late take offs and when driving off the bottom.

The outline is also wider through the nose than that of the shortboard, this offers the potential to move forward on the board and hotdog.

I enjoy surfing this board in heavy waves, but also on open point breaks or any big faced wave.

BEAU STUBBY

THE STUBBY, was conceived from visions of Wayne/ Ted / MP cut downs. It was a morph of curves, combined to shrink a minimal I was riding, whilst keeping the plan shape relatively central.

Originally I pushed the wide point back to accommodate my stance on the board and used my shortboard template for the back half of the board. The bottom is rolled and has a single channel to reduce surface area.

The stubby is a good introduction to the way a single fin surfs. Single fins have different tempos/gears. They are difficult to surf coming from a thruster. If you like tuning into your board and adjusting fin placement, single fins are perfect, as you can feel the difference in every inch of fin and placement. I believe single fins are a good way of learning about surf craft, I choose the stubby for full involvement.

Rocker; Nose; 3-4” Tail - 1’ 1/2” - 2” Surface areas Nose; 15-17” Tail; 15-16’1/2”

Foil/ Rail; Rolled throughout, foiled down in the tail. The rails are Pinched in the nose, and are 60 down 40 up in the centre, becoming hard and down in the tail.

Fin;  8-9” Raked fin, I use 8” Liddle, or 9” Paul Gross flex fin.

BEAU MINIMAL

This board was designed and built for the point waves on the north coast. It is 21’ 1/2” wide x 3” thick. The outline is inspired by traditional longboards and the guns of the 50’s and 60’s. It’s components; a roll bottom into spiral V, entry nose rocker is subtle and the tail rocker is cranked with a 90’s style exit out the tail. The Blank is a 8’7 Midget plug, and is glued with a 9mm T Band stringer. The deck is flat and has a 50/50 C rail. The board is refined for speed and has a tucked rail for manoeuvrability.

The rocker; Nose; 3-4” Tail; 2’3/4 - 3’1/2”

The surface are; Nose; 15’1/2-16’1/2 W.P; 21-22” Tail; 15-1/4”-15 3/4”

The bottom; is rolled throughout, and flat behind the fin out the tail.

The rail; soft through to the surrounding fin area where it has a hard tucked edge.

The fin; Suitable to a 8.5” - 9” raked fin.
